The Ezcema Noose

The day before yesterday, I was officially diagnosed with severe atopic dermatitis by a dermatologist. For those who do not know, I have been having dermatitis for more than a year now; it was not easy to find a doctor who is willing to refer me to a dermatologist. When I was finally referred to one, I had to save up money as I know it will be an expensive treatment. With my ever growing scars on my body, I thought it was finally time to see one last week.

Due to the nature of my problem, I am given Neoral 100 that is 100mg Cyclosporin to help calm the situation. For those who study medicine and pharmacy, I can see your eyebrows raising at the name of 'Cyclosporin'. For those who have no clue about it (Like me at first), it is a drug that is usually given to patients who had had an organ transplant. Like any other potent drugs, the side effect is the lowering of the immune system. Although I was assured that I am given very low dosage that should not result in drastic consequences, precaution is still needed while taking this drug. Afterall, the indirect side effect is the development of cancer, particularly skin and leukemia. To avoid that, I cannot afford to fall sick all the time. To make sure that I don't suddenly leave this world without any prior notification, I have to see the doctor every 2 weeks to check on my blood pressure and urine test to make sure it does not screw my whole body up.

So, that translate to a need of a really healthy lifestyle. With this drug, I cannot take grapefood and foods with high potassium (yes, bananas cannot be part of my diet anymore - not that I'm fond of it though). Moreover, I must take sunblock and stay away from the sunrays. I am also expected to rest well that means early nights and try to fret less too. If possible, no stress which is going to be hard since I have a lot of things going on.

I don't really like the idea to tell the whole world on the health problem I am having now. Nevertheless, I felt it is necessary to gain everybody's understanding in what I am going through. Therefore, I hope that you will understand on why I reject alcohol, junk foods (including chocolate, my biggest sacrifice) and late night outs for the next six months (if it works out in the end).

If it works out after 6 months, I will be able to take prick tests and whatsoever tests to find out what causes my misery.

I ask for your patience and support. Thank you.

Im glad you finally went. I was diagnosed with atopic eczema too but not severe, and had to follow the regiment closely, but it paid off. All the best.
