Note: I love this video because of the symbolic analogies in describing a tragic end of a relationship. Prior to watching this video, I seen the original version without Timbaland. It figures why the earlier one wasn't successful; it did not have the heavier beat and the background voice that bring out the 'drastic end' of the song to its fullest. In fact, it was a little too 'soft' for its own good.
I'm holding on your rope,What is the definition of "Forgive"? When you dissect the word, it becomes 'for' and 'give'. When someone do you wrong, do you 'for' and 'give' that person? Is it a short form of "For your apology, I give up on having the desire of having revenge"? Is it possible that it is "For what you did, I give you another chance to repent"? Then again, can it be "For the sake of harmony, I give up my anger towards you"?
got me ten feet off the ground.
And I'm hearing what you say,
but i just can't make you sound.
You tell me that you need me,
then you go and cut me down.
But, wait.
Tell me that you're sorry,
didn't think I'd turn around, to say..
That it's too late to apologize
It's too late..
I said it's too late to apologize
It's too late..
I'd take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it's nothing new -
I loved you with the fire red-
Now it's turning blue, and you say...
"Sorry" like the angel
heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid...
That it's too late to apologize
It's too late..
I said it's too late to apologize
It's too late..
I believe the interpretation of the word 'forgive' is rather interesting from this angle. Maybe it'll depend on how we choose to forgive people. Some people choose to forgive and forget whereas others decide on forgive and remember. The former may have peace at heart but may risk being offended again such as in "Shame on you if you fool me once, shame on me if you fool me twice". The later may not be easily conned; however, a grudge will always remain in the heart.
Yet, you may argue that the whole point of forgiving is to forget the wrong deed, how can you be forgiving if you remember the past? Isn't it about moving on with the present into the future?
I'll give you a scenario: A thief apologized and asked for forgiveness for what he/she stole. As a good human, you forgive him/her. Nevertheless, he/she stole something from you again the next day and once again asked for an apology and forgiveness. Will you forgive him/her?
Supposing that you forgive him/her, will you continue forgiving him/her when he/she steals again? Will you question yourself on whether you are actually helping him/her or perhaps avoiding future victims? If anything bad should sprout from it, do you have a part in the blame?
Supposing that you don't forgive him/her, will you exact revenge upon this thief? What are you going to do with your lack of forgiveness?
Supposing you forgive but remember, will there ever be a time that you can really trust this thief? Do you have a condition that needs to be fulfilled before letting go of that memory?
I believe everyone have their own answers. Afterall, forgiveness has never been a truly black and white thing. Funny though, no one ever seem to realize this.
Now, do you believe in forgiveness?
